FINE ET RARE THÉIÈRE COUVERTE EN FAÏENCE DE SATSUMA JAPON, OSAKA, CIRCA 1890, SIGNEE De forme globulaire, reposant sur un pied evase, l'anse formant dragon, le bec verseur formant phenix, coiffee d'un couvercle que couronne un bouton de prehension en forme de perle flammee, decoree en emaux polychromes et or de deux medaillons polylobes se detachant sur un fond floral tapissant, l'un inscrit d'un paysage lacustre fantaisiste probablement inspire du lac de Biwa, l'autre de femmes et d'hommes lisant. Marque sigillaire or au dessous. La forme originale de cette theiere derive des theieres anglaises en argent produites a partir du debut XVIIIe siecle. Ajoutee a la combinaison de deux themes, elle permet a M. Louis Lawrence une datation aux alentours des annees 1890. Une theiere du meme artiste egalement ornee d'un paysage lacustre fantaisiste est conservee dans les collections du Musee National de Varsovie. FINE AND RARE SATSUMA LIDDED TEAPOT JAPAN, OSAKA, CIRCA 1890, SIGNED Of globular shape, resting on a spreading foot, with a dragon handle and a phoenix spout, the lid topped by a knob molded as a flaming pearl; adorned in polychrome and gilt enamels with two lobed medallions on a flower ground, one painted with a fantasy landscape probably inspired by lake Biwa, the other with women and mean at leisure. Signed Yabu Meizan on the base. The original shape of this teapot comes from English silver teapots, whose production started in the early 18th century. Given its shape and the combination of themes, Mr. Louis Lawrence would date this teapot circa 1890.
