STATUETTE EN BRONZE DORÉ REPRÉSENTANT UN QILIN CHINE, DYNASTIE TANG (618-907) Représenté accroupi, la patte antérieure droite appuyée sur une sphère, tête tournée, gueule ouverte, queue enroulée, les yeux incrustés de pierres rouges, le pelage finement détaillé par des mèches incisées. Socle en bois joint. La sculpture miniature animalière est attestée dès l`époque des Han de l`ouest en Chine et se poursuit dans les dynasties suivantes. Ainsi, Christie`s New-York présenta dans sa vente du 28 Mars 1996 un remarquable ours en bronze doré et incrusté de pierres dures d`époque Han (lot 267). En Septembre 2012, Sotheby`s New York mit en vente un remarquable lion assis d`époque Tang à l`instar de notre pièce (lot 71). A GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF A QILIN CHINA, TANG DYNASTY (618-907) Finely casted, chased and gilded, the eyes inlaid with red stones, with a naturalistically curved body depicted in a semi-kneeling position, a right foreleg grasping a sphere, a ferocious open mouth with detailed teeth, a sharp horn on the top of the head, and a fur finely detailed and incised in locks. Wooden stand included. Some figures testify of an early taste for wildlife sculptures in China. Indeed, a miniature figure of a bear made up of gilded bronze and inlaid with hard stones was offered at Christie`s New York, March 28, 1996 (lot 267). More recently, in September 2012, Sotheby`s New York offered a remarkable seated lion of the Tang Dynasty.
