This balm made of magnificent finely woven basketry and
openwork is enhanced with natural polychrome pigments.
This colorful mask, an anthropomorphic figure, refers to the
initiation rites and ceremonies kept secret, reserved
to the initiated. The Baba is part of the spirit world and has
a guardian role. It is worn with a long skirt
pandanus leaves and flower necklaces as well as a
launched in order to frighten and keep the uninitiated at bay.
