Very ornate pendant in the shape of a Latin... - Lot 1038 - Iegor

Very ornate pendant in the shape of a Latin cross, made of a metal alloy containing silver. The main side of the crucifix shows Jesus on the cross, with the letters JHS (which takes the Greek triliteral monogram IHΣ to mean the name of Jesus, or IHΣOYΣ). The Virgin Mary is seen crowned atop Christ, and holy figures to her left and right. On the back, five nimbed figures can be seen on three levels. We recognize the Virgin Mary folding at the bottom. The three central figures are probably Peter, John and James; the three apostles who are seen as pillars holding up the Church in this world. At the top we see a figure, which is Christ triumphant in the afterlife The cross is bordered by regular motifs that delimit its contours and the different levels. Four-petalled flowers adorn the central corners of the piece. The outer corners are reinforced. Hight : 12cm / 4 3/4"
