ANTIQUITÉ ROMAINE / ROMAN ANTIQUITY - Lot 101
ANTIQUITÉ ROMAINE / ROMAN ANTIQUITY
Lot of three objects composed of a Roman strigil, ashes from Vesuvius (Pompeii, Italy) and a bronze bell.
The strigile is an instrument that was used by bathers and athletes to scrape off their skin in order to remove water, dust and sweat. Only the upper part remains in the one that composes this lot.
Vesuvius is a volcano famous for its eruption in 79 AD, which immortalized the city of Pompeii, as well as its citizens. We have here a vial that contains ashes that were collected on April 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14, 1906.
We enclose a part of an old bronze bell.
Length of the strigile: 18cm / 7 1/8"
