CHAPEAU CERÉMONIEL de chef AMERINDIEN. CA 1880 Ce type de chapeau a été longtemps associé aux évènements marquants d’une tribu comme par exemple lors de signatures de traités avec le gouvernement des États-Unis . Il s’agit d’un chapeau haut de forme acquis auprès de commerçants ‘’blancs’’ . C’est le type de haut chapeau dont on voit coiffé le président Abraham Lincoln sur de nombreuses photos d’époque. La décoration amérindienne consiste en une bande de tissu de laine rouge de type ‘’Stroud Cloth’’ par-dessus laquelle est attachée un bande perlée de motifs géométriques ainsi que d’autres ornements qui dénotent une tribu des Plaines de l’Ouest, probablement Sioux Dakota. Le haut du chapeau est orné d’une plaque laiton de casque de cavalerie US modèle 1872 très patinée. Ces plaques ont été remplacées par le modèle 1881. L’intérieur du chapeau porte la marque : BB BOYNTON, KEESEVILLE, NY. Excellente condition. Hauteur : 18 cms (7 ¼’’) AMERINDIAN CHIEF’S CEREMONIAL TOP HAT. Ca 1880 This type of hat has been often associated with major tribal events like the signing of treaties with the US Government. It’s a top hat acquired from ‘’white’’ traders. This ‘’HIGH’ hat is often seen on period photographs of President Abraham LINCOLN The Amerindian decoration consists of a band of red wool "Stroud ‘’ type Cloth" over which is attached a beaded strip with geometrical motives as well as other ornaments which denote a tribe of the Western Plains, probably Dakota Sioux. The top of the hat is decorated with a brass model 1872 US Cavalry helmet plate heavily patinated. These plates were replaced by the model 1881.
