GARAKU JAPON, ÉCOLE D'OSAKA, XIXE SIÈCLE Okimono d'un pêcheur en bronze et en ivoire, représenté assis sur un rocher amovible fait de bois sculpté, arborant un kimono que serre à la taille un obi, il tient de sa main droite une canne à pêche, de sa main gauche un poisson qu'il vient de sortir de l'eau, traitement réaliste, visage aux détails soignés - notamment une dent manquante - pieds aux sandales, belle patine brune. Signé au dos. Garaku compte parmi les grands maîtres ivoiriers japonais. Cette sculpture est sans nul doute l'un de ses chefs-d'oeuvre, de par sa monumentalité tout d'abord, l'alliance de l'ivoire et du bronze ensuite, et la remarquable exécution enfin. Signed on the back. Garaku is one of the most important Japanese ivory carvers. This sculpture is undoubtedly one of his chefs-d'oeuvre, taking into consideration its size, the combination of carved ivory and casted bronze, as well as the finesse of work.
