Crucifix in the shape of a Latin cross made... - Lot 1033 - Iegor

Crucifix in the shape of a Latin cross made of dark wood and silver metal. On the main side, one can see Jesus Christ nimbed with a star. Above his head is a scroll bearing the Latin acronym I.N.R.I., Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, i.e. "Jesus the Nazarene King of the Jews", which Pilate had put on the Cross (John, xix, 20). Below Christ, we can see a skull, which reminds us both of the mortality of Man, but also of Christ's victory over death, through death. The back of the cross shows a Sacred Heart at the junction of the cross, and a handwritten inscription: « B. Beaulne ». Included with this object is a a small card indicating its origin. « Ce vieux crucifix était neuf quand ma vielle mère me le donna le jour de mon entrée au noviciat le 12 juillet 1882 (précieux souvenir) [...] Laperle C.S.V.
