Exceptional Directoire period ormoulu and patinated bronze striking MANTEL CLOCK after a design by DEVERBERIE, with a decor of a sitting native huntress on top of the dial. She is dressed in a feather loincloth, a feather crown and adorned with a necklace, pearl armbands and guilloche bracelets on the wrists and ankles. A quiver and arrows are tied behind her back. She holds in her right hand a bow and in the left a lance slaying a reptile which is at her feet. The animal has a golden arrow-shaped tongue. Its tail is wrapped around a palm tree which is behind the huntress. The palms are bronze like with green varnish and embellished with gilt fruits. The white enamel dial indicates the hours and minutes in Roman numerals. It is signed "DEVERBERIE à PARIS". Set on a gilt bronze base decorated with intertwined snakes, acanthus leaves and pearls. The model of this mantel clock was designed by Jean Simon Deverberie, the 3rd of Pluviose of year VII, i.e., on January 22, 1799. Deverberie, Parisian clockmaker, was located Rue Barbette in 1800, Boulevard du Temple in 1804 and rue des Fossés du Temple in 1812-1820.
